Over the years, and especially since 2014, when I started training in Core Shamanism, I have been learning practices for working with nature and compassionate transcendent beings. Some years ago, I began offering healing using the shamanic healing methodologies that I had learnt and been initiated into.
These practices can be integrated within Shiatsu and Chi Nei Tsang sessions. To book a session contact me here.
Shamanic methodologies require skills in shifting consciousness to connect and communicate with a ‘spirt world’ of many presences, including transcendental beings such as guides, teachers, protectors and compassionate healing presences. This skill began early in my childhood and later, following an initiation, it became more readily and consciously accessible.
This Shamanic State of Consciousness (SSC) is evoked in many ways – I use meditation states, monotonous drumming, shaking a particular rattle, chanting and singing. A shift to the SSC is needed for connection, communication, engagement and ‘flow’ with the invisible aspects of the universe – the ‘spirit’ world or non-ordinary reality.
Ordinary reality is one in which there is separateness, and increased susceptibility to the pulls and pushes of wishes and dissatisfaction. The non-ordinary reality that is accessed through shifts in consciousness enables a ‘respite’ from this – to a place where there is more freedom from suffering – and opportunities to access information and sharing of power.
Repeatedly shifting in consciousness to ‘non-ordinary reality’ increasingly requires a capacity for open-hearted, non-dual, non-judgemental awareness, akin to the states of ‘dhyana’ in buddhism. In the SSC, it is possible to include shamanic methodologies for healing and integration. These include:
Soul Retrieval: At times, when there is great stress, our overall ‘integrated being’ is affected and challenged in terms of connecting with the ‘whole’. If the challenge and disconnection is significant there may be a sense of ‘soul loss’ which might manifest as a tendency for difficulties in attention and emotional regulation.
Extraction: At times there may be unhelpful or disharmonious presences or ‘structures’ in the body. These are known as ‘intrusions’ and are energetic in nature. Extraction is a method for removing them and allowing more harmony and clarity in the energy field.
Compassionate Depossession: Shamanic Depossession is a method to kindly and compassionately release the presence of aspects that have become internalised that are no longer in the ‘right place’. The aim is restoring balance and harmony.
Curse Unravelling: At times there are patterns of behaviour or thoughts that have developed a ‘life of their own’ and are active in resisting change. One way of describing these patterns is to call them ‘curses’. The aim of this method is to ‘unravel’ the curses so that they no longer have an impact on one’s life and there is greater freedom from ‘past habits’, including those that are intergenerational.
Psychopomp Work: This method is to support spirits of the ‘no longer living’ to move on to where to an appropriate place of peace, harmony and community. At times people, animals or other beings ‘die’ in difficult circumstances and their residual consciousness or ‘spirit’ may be distressed. The role of the community psychopomp is to support them in communicating what is needed and guide them towards ‘home’.
What to expect from a session? The sessions generally have little or no physical contact. If you request some Shiatsu and Chi Nei Tsang then this will be included in the sessions. Each session is unique. With your permission, there may also be drumming, rattling and spontaneous singing or humming. There may also be the use of sage or other incense – again, with your permission.
Occasionally, I may also tell you about or ask you questions about what the spirits are communicating to enable greater clarity for the healing session.
At the end of the session, I may leave you on your own in the treatment room for a few minutes while I go outside to make notes and reflect on any further information that may be needed. This gives you time to rest and reflect – and when I return, I check how you are and get your feedback. There may also be further intuited guidance that can be of use to you in the future.
