MBSR is a well researched evidence-based course that teaches core-skills in mindfulness. Mindfulness is essentially a particular way of paying attention, on purpose and non-judgementally that can enhance the awareness of our experiences, moment by moment. By regularly practicing mindfulness we can develop skills to be better able to manage stress and enhance well-being, confidence and positivity, even when times are challenging. These benefits may include having more energy and feeling more relaxed and confident in general.
The MBSR curriculum is covered over eight 2-hour sessions and a 6-hour Practice Day. The aim is to develop confidence and skills in practicing mindfulness. Also included is how it works, a range of practices and reflection on experiences. The group size ensures personalised support in developing mindfulness skills. Practicing at home is an essential part of the course and daily practice (30 to 60 minutes) is recommended. Worksheets and access to recordings of the practices are provided.
The course is taught by Dr Bernadette Carelse, a mindfulness teacher registered with the UK Network of Mindfulness Teachers by adhering to their Good Practice Guidelines for teaching mindfulness. Dr Carelse has taught meditation and yoga since 2001 and MBSR since 2013. From 2008 to 2013, she completed doctoral research on children and mindfulness and since then has run mindfulness training, including in schools for school staff and pupils.
The MBSR course costs £240. This covers the MBSR course itself (8 sessions) and the Practice Day. It includes access to audio recordings to support home practice and handouts. There are discounts available for teachers and others working in educational settings (£200), those in full-time education or with low incomes (£150) and those who have completed an MBSR course with us in the past (£100). If you are eligible, please contact us for a discount code. It is recommended that participants buy the book “Mindfulness in 8 Weeks” by Michael Chaskalson.
Refunds are available if a place is withdrawn up to 4 weeks prior to the event commencement date. All refunds are minus 25% admin fee. If a place cancelled within 4 weeks of the event commencement date, or after the course has started, no refund is offered.
