MYmind for children with ADHD or ASD

In 2015, I trained at the University of Amsterdam (UVA) with Susan Bogels to use the MYmind Programme.  This mindfulness training is for children and young people with Attendtion Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and also for those with Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD).  Both include training for parents, Mindful Parenting.

MYmind is a mindfulness-based 9 session parent and child training program, for children and young people aged 9 to 18 years old.  It aims to help them improve focus and concentration, and decrease impulsivity, hyperactivity, and aggression.  The program also addresses stress, anxiety and depression and has a positive effect on social communication for those with ASD.  The Mindful Parenting training helps parents to deal with the problems of their children in a mindful, non-reactive way. In addition, parents learn how they can support and reward their child’s mindfulness training.

I attended was the 5½-day MYmind advanced teacher training.  It helped me to build on my background in mindfulness training and meditation and how I used this with children, young people and families in my work as an Educational Psychologist.  It built on my experiences gained through doctoral research and practice in schools.

During October 2017, I worked with Susan Bogels and Esther deBruin in a adapted version of the MYmind program in London which was filmed for the BBC 1 documentary “The Doctor who gave up drugs” with Doctor Chris Van Tulleken.  I ran the Mindful Parenting program for the parents of the children with ADHD and created the meditation recordings that the children used at home for their practice.
